Analysts suggest that the iPad will be a big international success. The first intentional iPad shipment has almost entirely been sold, and some analysts believe that the iPad could outsell the Mac this quarter. Mike Abramsky with RBC Capital Markets said Friday that he believes between 600,000 and 700,000 iPads will be sold overseas in June, though the number could go even higher. If that forecast is accurate, it would well exceed the 500,000 Macs expected to be sold in June. |

Apple's new iPad is so popular that supply shortages force the international launch date to be delayed until the end of May. Although we have delivered more than 500,000 iPads during its first week, demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks as more people see and touch an iPad. We have also taken a large number of pre-orders for iPad 3G models for delivery by the end of April.
Faced with this surprisingly strong U.S. demand, we have made the difficult decision to postpone the international launch of iPad by one month, until the end of May. We will announce international pricing and begin taking online pre-orders on Monday, May 10. We know that many international customers waiting to buy an iPad will be disappointed by this news, but we hope they will be pleased to learn the reason -- the iPad is a runaway success in the U.S. thus far. |

The prominent iPhone hacker, George Hotz, demonstrated how to permanently jailbreak an iPhone 3GS and will likely work on the new iPad. From Apple InsiderThe new BootROM, known as iBoot-359.32, has proven challenging for hackers, who have only been able to implement the tethered jailbreak, which requires users to connect their iPhone to a computer via USB every time they reboot the device. Hotz claims his latest hack will not require a USB connection.
While iPhone users can rely on jailbreaking to unlock their handset for use with unauthorized carriers, the 3G-capable version of the iPad, scheduled to arrive in late April, ships unlocked by default. However, its 3G frequencies are only compatible with AT&T in the U.S. |

Random House, the largest book publisher in the world, may opt not to offer their content for sale on the iPad due to fears of pricing. The concern is over Apple's adoption of the "agency model," which allows the company serving the content to take a cut of sales. Tuesday, March 2nd 2010 Apple filed a lawsuit against smartphone maker HTC over several infringements across 20 patents. The phones involved include those running the Android and Windows Mobile Operating Systems. The complaint even goes as far as to specifically distinguish between Android and non-Android handsets, suggesting Google's mobile operating system plays a part in the alleged patent infringement. While Android-based phones are labeled "Accused HTC Android Products" in the suit, phones that run on Windows Mobile are given the label "Accused HTC DSP products," referring to the digital signal processing hardware decoders found in those devices |
